Softball Recap: Gunn Takes a Loss

Gunn extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-10 in the process. They lost 20-9 to the Homestead Mustangs. The Titans were not able to make up for their loss to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in May of 2018.

Makena Smith made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one stolen base.

As for Homestead, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games.

On Homestead's side, Elisa Coyle and Izzy Gutierrez did most of the damage at the plate: Coyle went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple, while Gutierrez went 2-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs Coyle has posted since back in March of 2024. Emma Alexander also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Gunn has already played their next game, an 11-3 defeat against Sequoia on the 24th. As for Homestead, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 5-1 loss against Los Gatos on the 24th.
