Softball Game Preview: North Pontotoc Vikings vs. Tupelo Golden Wave

North Pontotoc hasn't had much luck against Tupelo recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. North Pontotoc will be playing in front of their home fans against Tupelo at 9:00 p.m. One thing working in North Pontotoc's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.

North Pontotoc's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Byhalia 14-0. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won five games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Rayn Naugle was a standout: she scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lacie Simmons, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

North Pontotoc always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Tupelo narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Starkville 8-7. The Golden Wave haven't had any issues with the Yellowjackets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

North Pontotoc has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. Tupelo's victory bumped their record up to 4-8.

North Pontotoc was able to grind out a solid win over Tupelo in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, winning 14-10. Does North Pontotoc have another victory up their sleeve, or will Tupelo turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
