Basketball Recap: Union Pines Vikings vs. Hoke County Bucks

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Union Pines ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 73-70 victory over the Hoke County Bucks. The win almost wasn't to be: the Vikings were down 50-35 in the third quarter.

Jaylen Kyle was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double with 29 points and nine boards. Those 29 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Leonard, who posted 15 points and five rebounds.

Hoke County's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josiah Jacobs, who scored 13 points and six boards. Union Pines' victory bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Hoke County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-14.
