Basketball Recap: West Anchorage Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Bartlett

On Monday, West Anchorage faced Bartlett in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The West Anchorage Eagles took a hard 74-58 fall against the Bartlett Golden Bears. The Eagles have struggled against the Golden Bears recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meetings.

West Anchorage's loss came despite strong showings from Sinai Harris and Wednesday Bithow. Harris posted seven points along with seven steals and six assists, while Bithow went 5-for-10 to rack up 16 points. West Anchorage is 5-1 when Harris posts five or more steals, but 6-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Aniah Harris, who had ten points.

Bartlett's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Harmony Jenkins-Foster, who almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine boards. Thanks to that strong game, Jenkins-Foster now owns an excellent 46.7% field goal percentage. Kennedi Gaines was another key player, putting up 18 points in addition to seven assists and three steals.

West Anchorage's loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Bartlett, the victory (which was their 16th in a row) raised their record to 19-2.

West Anchorage wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 67-31 win against South Anchorage on the 25th. As for Bartlett, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 69-15 victory against Bettye Davis East Anchorage on the 25th.
