Basketball Recap: Caden Newton Key Part of a Team Effort in Bears Win

Bayside hadn't done well against Satellite recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Bayside Bears walked away with a 49-40 win over the Satellite Scorpions. While the Bears didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Bayside's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Caden Newton, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 14 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Newton is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Elijah Gillis was another key player, putting up 13 points and five rebounds.

Despite the loss, Satellite had strong showings from Emery Wallace, who went 8 of 12 on his way to 17 points, and Christian Mcphilamy, who posted 11 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavi Madrid, who put up four points.

Bayside's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-3. As for Satellite, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2.

Bayside wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 71-40 win against Brevard Christian on the 12th. As for Satellite, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 58-55 victory against Cocoa Beach on the 12th.
