Baseball Recap: Smithsburg Has No Trouble Against Martinsburg

Smithsburg came out on top against Martinsburg on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Leopards were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Bulldogs. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-2 back in March.

Isaiah Burger was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Eli Bowman was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Smithsburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Smithsburg's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-10. As for Martinsburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-11.

Smithsburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Martinsburg, they will challenge Heritage Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
