Basketball Recap: Land O' Lakes Takes a Loss

Land O' Lakes lost against Wesley Chapel back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Land O' Lakes Gators took a hard 69-52 fall against the Wesley Chapel Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 362nd, while the Wildcats are ranked 157th).

Despite the loss, Land O' Lakes still got an impressive performance from Brody Soldano, who posted 13 points. Soldano is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Jacoby Davis, who put up eight points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Land O' Lakes smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matchups.

Ethan Hicks continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Wesley Chapel, going 6 of 11 on his way to 17 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Hicks' evening made it 20 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sian Morris, who had 11 points and four steals.

Land O' Lakes has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Wesley Chapel, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-4.

Land O' Lakes wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 69-45 defeat against Sports Leadership & Management on the 11th. As for Wesley Chapel, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 71-55 win against Eastside on the 11th.
