Baseball Recap: East Duplin Panthers vs. North Lenoir Hawks

East Duplin took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against North Lenoir, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Panthers had just enough and edged out the Hawks 9-8 on Tuesday. This was payback for the Panthers, who suffered a 7-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

East Duplin got a great performance from Kyle Kern as he struck out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Kern has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, East Duplin let Jack Tuck and Sawyer Marshburn run wild. Tuck scored two runs while going 1-for-1, while Marshburn went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
