Soccer Game Preview: Manitou Springs vs. St. Mary's

The Manitou Springs Mustangs will venture away from home to challenge the St. Mary's Pirates at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Manitou Springs will be strutting in after a victory while St. Mary's will be coming in after a defeat.

Manitou Springs will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any goals two weeks ago, then bounced right back against Banning Lewis Academy two weeks ago. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Stallions. Considering Manitou Springs' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Their offense was hitting Banning Lewis Academy from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Elie Bourgeois led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for three goals all by herself.

Meanwhile, St. Mary's lost 5-1 to Buena Vista on Tuesday. The game was over by the end of the first half, with no goals scored by either team from that point forward.

St. Mary's loss dropped their record down to 2-1-1. As for Manitou Springs, the win got them back to even at 1-1-2.

Manitou Springs took their victory against St. Mary's in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
