Softball Recap: Scurry-Rosser Triumphs

Scurry-Rosser posted their closest win since February 17th on Friday. They skirted past the Rice Bulldogs 8-7. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Madison Lumpkin made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaycee Rhoades, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alanah Greene, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Scurry-Rosser was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rice only posted a batting average of .226.

Scurry-Rosser's win bumped their record up to 9-16. As for Rice, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-8-1.

Looking ahead, Scurry-Rosser will host Palmer at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Rice, they are taking a road trip to challenge Grandview at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Zebras have now posted at least ten runs in their last five matchups.
