Basketball Game Preview: Westlake Thunder vs. Davis Darts

The Westlake Thunder will face off against the Davis Darts at 4:10 p.m. on Monday. Westlake will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Westlake is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Everything went their way against Farmington as Westlake made off with a 52-29 victory. Given the Thunder's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Phoenix are ranked 66th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Westlake found their leader in sophomore Janiece Sikander, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards. Sikander also set a new season-high mark in steals with six. Another player making a difference was Ella Seymore, who posted 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Westlake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Davis entered their tilt with Lehi on Thursday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Pioneers, sneaking past 54-52.

Westlake's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-6. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points over those games. As for Davis, their victory bumped their record up to 16-6.

Westlake beat Davis 45-32 in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Will Westlake repeat their success, or does Davis have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
