Recap: Hickory Hawks vs. Grassfield Grizzlies
The Hickory Hawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 49-42 to Grassfield. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Hickory in their matchups with Grassfield: they've now lost eight in a row.
Grassfield was led to victory by Khadijah Rashid and Amaya Fisher. Rashid dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Fisher scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Fisher hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. Kameron Dyes was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
Hickory's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Grassfield, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 16-5.
Hickory will head out on the road to take on Kellam at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Hickory will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 241st, while Kellam is ranked 36th). As for Grassfield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Nansemond River at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Virginia (Nansemond River is ranked 41st, while Grassfield is ranked 63rd).
