Baseball Game Preview: William Allen Canaries vs. Pocono Mountain East Cardinals

The William Allen Canaries will venture away from home to challenge the Pocono Mountain East Cardinals at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. William Allen is looking for their season's first victory.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when William Allen and Emmaus meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. William Allen fell 6-2 to Emmaus.

William Allen saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emill Roman, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Daniel Rivas also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three contests, Pocono Mountain East finally came back down to earth on Wednesday. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Freedom. The matchup marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Pocono Mountain East also got a good showing from Rily Calemmo, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Calemmo has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Bobby Ehrmann was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

William Allen's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Pocono Mountain East, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. William Allen has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pocono Mountain East struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

William Allen might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Pocono Mountain East when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can William Allen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
