Baseball Recap: Hedgesville Wins Going Away Against South Hagerstown

The Hedgesville Eagles got the win against the South Hagerstown Rebels on Tuesday by a conclusive 10-1. With that win, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Landon Pence was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cason Plaugher, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Noah Brown, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Hedgesville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

Hedgesville is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for South Hagerstown, they moved to 6-12 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Coming up, Hedgesville will welcome GVCS Broadfording at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. South Hagerstown does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
