The University Christian Christians came up short against the Hawthorne Hornets on Friday and fell 42-29. The Christians were down 36-15 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

University Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ty Keister, who rushed for 34 yards and one TD, and also threw for 50 yards and one touchdown.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 1.7 yards per carry. While two picked up at least nine total tackles, Matthew Hammett stood above the rest. He picked up 0.5 sacks and made nine total tackles (2.5 for loss). University Christian will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Providence School at 7:30 p.m. on the 24th. As for Hawthorne, they have already played their next matchup, a 26-0 win against Dunnellon on the 16th.
