Recap: Shallowater Mustangs vs. Muleshoe Mules
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Bushland, The Shallowater Mustangs were happy to have found some success on Friday. They came out on top against Muleshoe by a score of 27-16. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Shallowater also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2022.
Kouper Boyd was on fire: he rushed for 183 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Clayton Vincent, who rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries.
Muleshoe's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Nathan Martens, who threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Ramzee Martinez was in the mix as well, providing Muleshoe with two touchdowns.
Shallowater's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Muleshoe, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2.
Shallowater will be playing at home against River Road at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. River Road is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. As for Muleshoe, they will head out on the road to face off against Dalhart at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Dalhart is on a three-game streak of home wins, Muleshoe a five-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
