Basketball Recap: Garfield Drops Season-High Score on Brookfield

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Garfield). Everything went their way against the Brookfield Warriors on Friday as the Garfield G-Men made off with a 91-68 win. The G-Men have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 23 points or more this season.

Preston Gedeon was his usual excellent self, going 16 of 28 on his way to 40 points and three steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Garfield's points. Another player making a difference was Brandyn Bogucki, who went 5 for 8 en route to 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists.

Garfield was working as a unit and finished the game with 30 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Brookfield saw an underclassman step up: freshman Blake Hammond posted 13 points and four steals. Hammond is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Judah Dejoy, who put up nine points and seven boards.

The victory made it two in a row for Garfield and bumps their season record up to 13-5. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 35.2% in those games and 28.5% outside of them. As for Brookfield, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-9.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Champion the next time they take the court. Garfield will host Champion at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Brookfield will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
