Softball Game Preview: Indianapolis Scecina Memorial Crusaders vs. Speedway Sparkplugs

The Indianapolis Scecina Memorial Crusaders will square off against the Speedway Sparkplugs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Indianapolis Scecina Memorial will be strutting in after a victory while Speedway will be coming in after a loss.

On Friday, Indianapolis Scecina Memorial made easy work of Indianapolis Arsenal Technical and carried off a 16-9 win. The victory continues a trend for the Crusaders in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won three in a row.

Olivia Covarrubias made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off six hits. Those 15 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Sarah Causemaker was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Makayla Gary was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Indianapolis Scecina Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .528. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Speedway was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Roncalli, falling 15-1.

Mallory Short made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run.

Speedway's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Indianapolis Scecina Memorial, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 4-10.
