Softball Game Preview: Marathon Red Raiders vs. Newman Fighting Cardinals

For the second straight game, Marathon will face off against Newman. The Red Raiders will challenge the Fighting Cardinals at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Marathon has three straight wins, Newman has 14 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Marathon lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Newman, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's match. The Red Raiders never let the Fighting Cardinals get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Red Raiders have won six contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Danica Staus was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Danica Paszek, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Newman's loss dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Marathon, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.
