Preview: Northwestern Trojans vs. South Pointe Stallions

Northwestern is 1-9 against South Pointe since November of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Northwestern Trojans will look to defend their home court against the South Pointe Stallions at 6:15 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Northwestern has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while South Pointe will arrive with 13 straight wins.

Last Thursday, Northwestern came up short against Indian Land and fell 43-35.

Northwestern's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jayla Gaiton, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and three steals, and Alexandria Howze who scored seven points along with two steals.

Meanwhile, South Pointe stacked an eighth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They really took it to Indian Land for the full four quarters, racking up a 80-10 win on the road. That looming 80-10 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for South Pointe yet this season.

South Pointe found their leader in underclassman Kaleigh Lucas, who scored 21 points along with seven steals and five assists. Lucas hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Victoria Morris was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with six rebounds and five steals.

Northwestern's loss was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-15. As for South Pointe, their victory bumped their record up to 15-2.

Northwestern couldn't quite finish off South Pointe in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 and fell 49-46. Can Northwestern avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
