Basketball Recap: Smith Academy Comes Up Short

Smith Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 47-39 loss to the Tri-Township Tigers.

Despite the defeat, Smith Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Judah Smith almost dropped a double-double with 28 points and nine rebounds. Smith also set a new season-high mark in field goal percentage with 58%.

Tri-Township found their leader in sophomore Breckon Ramirez, who shot 50% from the field on his way to 15 points and eight boards. Ramirez has become a key player for the Tigers: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least 15 points, but 1-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ethan Dailey, who posted eight points and 13 rebounds.

Smith Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Tri-Township, their record now sits at 3-8.

Smith Academy has already played their next matchup, a 56-35 defeat against Hamilton on the 6th. As for Tri-Township, they will welcome Washington Township at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
