Cheshire faced Newtown in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Rams put the hurt on the Nighthawks with a sharp 10-2 victory. The win was nothing new for the Rams as they're now sitting on eight straight.

Jenica Matos spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up 16 Ks.

On the hitting side, Jordan McCue was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ava Pearson, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Cheshire kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Cheshire's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Newtown, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.

Coming up, Cheshire will square off against Law at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Newtown, they will challenge Pomperaug at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
