Basketball Recap: Rivera Beats Pace for Their Fifth Straight Win

Rivera had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They walked away with a 45-38 victory over the Pace Vikings. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 49-33 back in December of 2024.

Rivera was led to victory by Cassandra Pardo and Xandria Johnson. Pardo posted 16 points and four steals, while Johnson had seven points in addition to 14 rebounds and five steals. Pardo is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Tiffany Garza was another key player, putting up six points.

Pace's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Bre Nelson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards, and Jazlene Plata, who earned nine points. The matchup was Nelson's third in a row with at least ten points.

Rivera is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 24-14 record this season. As for Pace, they moved to 12-19 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Rivera wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 70-25 win against Weslaco East on the 4th. Pace has also already played their next match, a 43-37 loss against Mercedes on the 4th.
