Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Salina Central

Salina Central came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Newton Railroaders with a sharp 10-4 victory. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

Valerie VanZant spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, Charlotte Gordon was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Riekhof, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Salina Central hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.

Salina Central's win bumped their record up to 15-4.

They will have a chance to go back-to-back against Newton: the pair will be back at it again later today.
