Volleyball Recap: Marian Comes Up Short

If Marian was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of St. Ursula Academy on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs fell just short of the Mercy Marlins by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Marlins: they've now lost six in a row.

Despite the loss, Marian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ashlyn Pelon had 24 digs and one assist. Those 24 digs set a new season-high mark for Pelon.

Maya Zarow was nothing short of spectacular for Mercy: she had 17 digs and three aces. The dominant performance also gave Zarow a new career-high in assists (three).

Marian's defeat dropped their record down to 29-3. As for Mercy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-3 record this season.

Marian has already played their next match, a 2-0 victory against Flushing on the 11th. As for Mercy, they will head out on the road to take on South Lyon East at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
