Basketball Game Preview: Sunrise Mountain Miners vs. Green Valley Gators

Sunrise Mountain hasn't had much luck against Green Valley recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Sunrise Mountain Miners will host the Green Valley Gators at 6:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Sunrise Mountain is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Friday. They had to suffer through a 74-27 loss at the hands of Faith Lutheran. While losing is never fun, the Miners can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Crusaders are ranked 24th).

Meanwhile, Green Valley unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of The Meadows School by a score of 58-55. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Gators have suffered since November 28, 2023.

Sunrise Mountain will need focus on slowing down Lamarcus Carter, one of several Green Valley players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 17 points. Deymien Tunis was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Green Valley's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-7. As for Sunrise Mountain, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-16.

Sunrise Mountain took a serious blow against Green Valley in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 69-35. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Sunrise Mountain was down 39-14.
