Basketball Game Preview: Russell County Lakers vs. Metcalfe County Hornets

Russell County is 2-8 against Metcalfe County since February of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Russell County Lakers are taking a road trip to face off against the Metcalfe County Hornets at 6:00 p.m.

Last Friday, Russell County lost to Cumberland County on the road by a 46-32 margin. The matchup marked the Lakers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, Metcalfe County didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Glasgow on Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 56-50 victory. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Scotties are ranked 176th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Russell County's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Metcalfe County, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Russell County beat Metcalfe County 76-67 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Russell County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
