Preview: Meridian Warriors vs. Moscow Bears
The Meridian Warriors will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Moscow Bears at 9:00 a.m. Meridian is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Meridian's offense. They fell 4-0 to Pocatello on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty 23 runs in the game before, Meridian's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Mariah Dresie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Meridian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddie Clark, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with a double.
Meanwhile, Moscow unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took an 18-15 hit to the loss column at the hands of Post Falls. Both teams can probably skip cardio this week after making that many trips around the bases.
Moscow got a massive performance out of Hannah Robertson, who went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI. Kaci Kiblen was another key contributor, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Even though they lost, Moscow was hitting in the alleys and finished the game with five doubles. That's the most doubles they've managed all season.
Meridian's record now sits at 2-2. As for Moscow, their loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both teams have some strikeout artists on the roster. Meridian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Moscow struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 per game. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Meridian came up short against Moscow when the teams last played back in March of 2023, falling 13-10. Can Meridian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
