Football Game Preview: Eastwood Troopers vs. Byron Nelson Bobcat

The Eastwood Troopers will challenge the Byron Nelson Bobcat at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Eastwood comes in on ten and Byron Nelson on eight.

Eastwood is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 45-30 win over Frenship. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Troopers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Tigers are ranked 317th).

Eastwood's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bentley De Vries, who rushed for 34 yards and two TDs, and also threw for 175 yards and one touchdown while completing 71.4% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave De Vries a new career-high in passer rating (112.2). Another back making a difference was Matthew Ramirez, who rushed for 84 yards and a pair of scores.

Eastwood didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Dage Duran, Zacary Adams, and Joshua Mora picked up one apiece. Adams has been hot for a while, having also posted five or more total tackles the last ten times he's played.

Meanwhile, Byron Nelson won against Keller Central last Friday with 42 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Bobcat blew past Mansfield 42-14. The Bobcat might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Eastwood's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Byron Nelson, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.

Eastwood came up short against Byron Nelson in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, falling 35-28. Can the Troopers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
