Baseball Recap: McCurdy Bobcats vs. Penasco Panthers

McCurdy posted their closest victory since March 22, 2025 on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Penasco Panthers. The Bobcats haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Ryan Valdez made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Ethan Bolton was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Joseph Baeza also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

The win was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 2-5. As for Penasco, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-7.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: McCurdy beat the Panthers by a score of 11-1 later that day.
