Basketball Recap: Smithfield's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

Smithfield pushed their score to 65 the last time they played Johnston, but on Wednesday they couldn't quite do it again. The Smithfield Sentinels escaped with a win against the Johnston Panthers by the margin of a single free throw, 1-0. The win was some much needed relief for the Sentinels as it spelled an end to their nine-game losing streak.

Smithfield's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-11. As for Johnston, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.

Smithfield has already played their next match, a 56-50 loss against Shea on the 31st. As for Johnston, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Johnston Panthers challenge the Tiverton Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Johnston is facing Tiverton at the right time seeing as Tiverton is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
