Jena faced North DeSoto in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Giants fell just short of the Griffins by a score of 4-3. The Giants' defeat signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.

Kiette Cooper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 24 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sydney Williams was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Haylee Dangerfield, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Jena's loss dropped their record down to 24-5. As for North DeSoto, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 24-3.
