Baseball Recap: Whiteland Takes a Loss

Whiteland extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 5-5 in the process. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs. The defeat was just more heartbreak for the Warriors, who fell 16-14 when the teams last met back in April of 2024.

Peyton Dickens was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

As for Franklin Community, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games.

On Franklin Community's side, Greyson Betts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. Betts has become a key player for the Grizzly Cubs: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Landen Basey, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Bullington, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whiteland will face off against Shelbyville at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Bears have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Franklin Community, they will take on Columbus East at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
