Basketball Recap: Auburn Riverside Takes a Loss

Auburn Riverside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 80-76 heartbreaker at the hands of the Decatur Golden Gators. The Ravens were probably out for revenge after losing 70-60 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Auburn Riverside still got an impressive performance from Chase Quinlan, who shot 7-for-10 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 boards. The dominant performance gave Quinlan a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Emediong Ukpe, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Auburn Riverside was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Decatur to victory, but perhaps none more so than Dar Mcjimpson Jr, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 26 points and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Corbett, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Auburn Riverside's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Decatur, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-6.

Auburn Riverside didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 81-46 defeat against Kentridge on the 6th. As for Decatur, they will venture away from home to face off against Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Jefferson has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
