Softball Game Preview: Newman Smith Trojans vs. Creekview Mustangs

Newman Smith is on a 16-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Creekview a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The Newman Smith Trojans will look to defend their home field against the Creekview Mustangs at 6:00 p.m.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Newman Smith's offense. They came up short against Highland Park on Tuesday, falling 10-0.

Meanwhile, Creekview hadn't done well against The Colony recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Cougars. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by seven runs or more this season.

Kelis Lee made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, MacKenzie Martin was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Kaelani Rogers was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Creekview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as The Colony only posted an OBP of .310.

Creekview's win bumped their record up to 17-14. As for Newman Smith, their loss dropped their record down to 0-21.
