Baseball Recap: Towanda Extends Road Winning Streak to Four

Towanda owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Williamson Warriors as they made off with a 9-0 victory. The Black Knights haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Jack Wheaton was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over seven innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

Wheaton wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jack Tavani, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Tavani is becoming a predictor of Towanda's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Another was Boom Thompson, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Towanda pushed their record up to 9-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Williamson, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Towanda will take on Troy at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Black Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 9.9 runs per game this season. As for Williamson, they will head out on the road to face off against Wellsboro at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
