MaxPreps National High School Volleyball Record Book: All-time leader Jodi Manore adds to coaching wins total

Bedford (Mich.) coach has compiled 2,287 victories and leads second-place coach by nearly 500 wins.

In high school football, basketball and baseball coaching circles, the all-time wins leaders are being replaced at the No. 1 spot on the list. Not so in girls volleyball.

J.T. Curtis of John Curtis Christian (River Ridge, La.) recently surpassed John McKissick of Summerville (S.C.) as the all-time leader in football coaching wins, according to records kept by MaxPreps. Baseball has had two new all-time leaders with Eddie Collins of Latta (Ada, Okla.) surpassing Murl Bowen of Asher (Okla.) a few years ago, only to have Billy Jack Bowen of Silo (Okla.) pass Collins the following season.

Meanwhile Gary McKnight of Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) is creeping up on all-time wins leader Robert Hughes of Dunbar (Fort Worth, Texas) in boys basketball, needing less than 100 wins to take over the top spot.
In girls volleyball, however, Jodi Manore of Bedford (Temperance, Mich.) is the clear leader, and that doesn't look to change anytime soon. With a 62-4 record this year, Manore moved to a record of 2,287-402-65. She leads second-place Jack Magelssen of Portage Northern (Portage, Mich.) and Kellogg (Delton, Mich.) by 455 wins, however Magelssen retired in 2012.

Manore's wins total are updated in the MaxPreps National High School Volleyball Record Book, which also includes most championships and consecutive championships. Season and career milestones updates are coming soon.

The closest active coach on the list to Manore is Anne Schilling of Bayside Academy (Daphne, Ala.). Schilling has 1,732 wins and has led her team to 31 state championships. Bayside Academy posted a record of 46-10 during the 2023 season, which means Manore actually pulled further into the lead due to Bedford's 16 extra wins.

MaxPreps has updated its list of all-time volleyball coaching wins leaders in its national volleyball record book. Joining Manore and Schilling are a total of 70 coaches who have won at least 1,000 games in their career. MaxPreps will also be updating volleyball individual and team records in the ensuing days so keep posted. Any additions or corrections to the lists can be sent to kevinaskeland65@gmail.com.
