Baseball Game Preview: Spring Valley Vikings vs. James Island Trojans

The Spring Valley Vikings will venture away from home to take on the James Island Trojans at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Spring Valley took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over West Ashley. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Daniel Bledsoe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Spring Valley's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 3-1 (and 9-14 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Spring Valley saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Harper Kissiah, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Brady Evans was another, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, James Island waltzed into their game on Friday with 17 straight wins... but they left with 18. Everything went their way against the Warriors as they made off with a 13-0 victory. Considering the Trojans have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

James Island pushed their record up to 23-3 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Spring Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-15 record this season.
