Soccer Recap: Sunnyside Takes Down Ranked Gilbert

On Wednesday, Sunnyside faced Gilbert in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Sunnyside Blue Devils had just enough and edged the Gilbert Tigers out 1-0. Pedro Vega had the honor of scoring the game-winner for the Blue Devils.

Sunnyside's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up three goals over those seven matchups. As for Gilbert, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-7.

Looking ahead, Sunnyside will face off against Salpointe Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Salpointe Catholic will roll in looking for their 17th straight victory, something Sunnyside surely won't give up without a fight. Gilbert does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
