Recap: Rider Raiders vs. Saginaw Rough Riders
The Rider Raiders lost against the Saginaw Rough Riders back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Rider took a 58-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Saginaw. While losing is never fun, Rider can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 649th, while Saginaw is ranked 133rd).
Rider lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Caiden Reed, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 17 rebounds. Reed hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Jared Cohee, who scored ten points.
Among those leading the charge was David Johnson, who scored 19 points along with six assists and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Jaiden Gastile was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
Rider bumped their record down to 7-15 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Saginaw, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-5.
Rider will be playing in front of their home fans against Aledo at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Aledo and Rider are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Saginaw, they will head out on the road to square off against Northwest at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
