Basketball Preview: Richmond Christian Warriors vs. Fredericksburg Christian Eagles

The Richmond Christian Warriors will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Fredericksburg Christian Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Richmond Christian will be looking to keep their 13-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.

Richmond Christian put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They blew past The Carmel School, posting a 75-22 victory on the road. Richmond Christian's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Richmond Christian can attribute much of their success to Kailah Carter, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds, and Morgan Trimble, who scored 31 points along with eight steals and six rebounds. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Carter has scored at least a third of Richmond Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jillian Gravatt, who scored eight points along with five steals.

Meanwhile, Fredericksburg Christian's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They received a tough blow as they fell 47-33 to Trinity Christian. Fredericksburg Christian has struggled against the Gryphons recently, as their game on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Fredericksburg Christian had strong showings from Emma Minnick, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Layna Thomas, who scored six points along with four steals. Thomas is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Richmond Christian is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. As for Fredericksburg Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Richmond Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 20.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Fredericksburg Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Richmond Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over the Eagles when the teams last played back in November of 2018, winning 49-36. Will Richmond Christian repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
