Basketball Preview: Saginaw Rough Riders vs. Rider Raiders
The Saginaw Rough Riders will be playing at home against the Rider Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Saginaw focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday.
Saginaw scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They breezed by Azle at home to the tune of 93-40. That looming 93-40 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Saginaw yet this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Saginaw to victory, but perhaps none more so than Julius Brundage, who scored 16 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Jason Roseberry was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Rider came up short against the Texans on Friday and fell 51-39. Rider has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Rider's defeat came about despite a quality game from Caiden Reed, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and three blocks. Reed has been hot recently, having posted 18 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jared Cohee, who scored three points along with two steals.
Saginaw has been performing well recently as they've won 16 of their last 20 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season. As for Rider, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-19 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Saginaw have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Rider struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Saginaw was able to grind out a solid victory over the Raiders in their previous matchup back in January, winning 58-49. Will Saginaw repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
