Preview: Somerset Academy Panthers vs. Miami Country Day Spartans
The Somerset Academy Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Miami Country Day Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Somerset Academy will be looking to keep their 12-game home win streak alive.
Even though Piper scored an imposing 62 points on Wednesday, Somerset Academy still came out on top. Somerset Academy secured a 66-62 W over Piper. Given Somerset Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while Piper is ranked 467th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Anthony Henderson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 19 points along with nine assists and five rebounds. That's the first time this season that he posted eight or more assists. Jahlon Blain was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, Miami Country Day pushed their score all the way to 73 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 78-73 hit to the loss column at the hands of Saint Andrew's. Miami Country Day has struggled against Saint Andrew's recently, as their match on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Miami Country Day's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Herbert Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds, and Miguel Orbe who scored 22 points along with five rebounds. That was a full 38.4% of Miami Country Day's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ashton Reid, who scored five points along with seven rebounds.
Somerset Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. As for Miami Country Day, their loss dropped their record down to 12-10.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Somerset Academy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 68.2 points per game. However, it's not like Miami Country Day struggles in that department as they've been averaging 68.6 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
