North Tahoe hasn't had much luck against Battle Mountain recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when North Tahoe and West Wendover meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again two weeks ago. The Lakers were the clear victors by a 26-6 margin over the Wolverines. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Lakers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 1013th in California, while the Wolverines are ranked 73rd in Nevada).

North Tahoe relied on the efforts of Nathan Powell, who rushed for 109 yards and two scores, and Aksel Atkins, who rushed for 68 yards and one touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: North Tahoe was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 223 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to North Tahoe's defense and their four sacks. Drew Basile was especially locked on to West Wendover's QB and sacked him twice.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Battle Mountain). They blew past Yerington 56-14 two weeks ago. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Longhorns considering their six-point performance the game before.

North Tahoe better keep an eye on Daniel Lara. He was instrumental in Battle Mountain's win, throwing for 152 yards and three TDs.

Battle Mountain's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 9.0 points on average over those games. As for North Tahoe, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

North Tahoe was taken down by Battle Mountain 42-7 in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. Will the Lakers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other football content.
