Basketball Recap: Connor Cochran's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bayard over Morrill

It was a proper cat-fight when Bayard took on Morrill on Tuesday. The Bayard Tigers took a 49-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Morrill Lions. The Tigers lost against the Lions in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 63-31 score last time.

Bayard lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Connor Cochran, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 12 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Cochran a new career-high in rebounds. Wyatt Edmunds was another key player, going 5 of 7 en route to 10 points.

Morrill's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ashwin Pittman, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine blocks. That makes it three consecutive games in which Pittman has scored at least a third of Morrill's points. Another player making a difference was Wyler Fisher, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards.

Bayard dropped their record down to 1-10 with the defeat, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Morrill, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-3.

Bayard will square off against Leyton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bayard is facing Leyton at the right time seeing as Leyton is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Morrill, they will face off against Minatare at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
