Softball Game Preview: Palisades Pirates vs. Northwestern Lehigh Tigers

Palisades is 1-9 against Northwestern Lehigh since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Pirates will host the Tigers at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Palisades was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Saucon Valley on Monday. The Pirates never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The Pirates have beaten the Panthers the last eight times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Panthers has come to flipping the script.

Karlye Teman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Brooklynn Lucas was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and two doubles. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Rhiley Poniktera was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Palisades kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Northwestern Lehigh came tearing into Monday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Falcons as they made off with a 10-0 win.

Northwestern Lehigh pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Palisades, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
