Basketball Recap: Ponte Vedra Comes Up Short

Ponte Vedra was the 50-35 winner over Providence School when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Ponte Vedra Sharks lost 60-37 to the Providence School Stallions on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Sharks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while the Stallions are ranked 30th).

Despite the defeat, Ponte Vedra saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jocelyn Hoffmann went 6 for 13 en route to 15 points. The matchup was Hoffmann's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Camila Felsing, who posted seven points and five boards.

Providence School's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kasey Davey, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Davey has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played. Janai Jordan was another key player, going 5 of 6 on her way to 13 points along with five boards and three steals.

Ponte Vedra's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Providence School, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

Ponte Vedra will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Andrew Jackson at 7:30 p.m. As for Providence School, they will head out to square off against Hilliard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
