Baseball Recap: Pearl City Wins High-Profile Matchup Against 'Aiea

Pearl City faced 'Aiea in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. Pearl City walked away with a 6-3 win over 'Aiea. This was a revenge game for the Chargers: when they faced off against the Na Alii on March 6th, they had to take a 9-8 loss.

Noah Bernal made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Pearl City: the team is 2-0-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 3-4-1 otherwise. Bernal was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Ian Wicklund looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Pearl City's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 2-4-2 when he doesn't).

Pearl City hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in nine consecutive games.

Pearl City's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-4-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for 'Aiea, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-4.

Coming up, Pearl City will face off against Campbell at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for 'Aiea, they will head out on the road to face off against Mililani at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mililani will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something 'Aiea surely won't give up without a fight.
