See the Mustangs in their convincing 56-35 win over the Tigers.

North Shore (Houston) has been looking up at Katy in the MaxPreps Texas Top 25 high school football rankings for over three months. No more.

Ranked No. 3 for most of the season, North Shore avenged a 24-21 season-opening loss to Katy with a convincing 56-35 victory in the Class 6A Division I regional semifinal on Friday at Houston's NRG Stadium.

Quarterback Dematrius Davis Jr., a Virginia Tech pledge, threw for three scores and ran for another three to lead the Mustangs to the most points allowed by Katy in a playoff game. The win elevated North Shore (12-1) to No. 2 in the ranking behind 13-0 Duncanville, the team the Mustangs defeated in a memorable 2018 state championship game. North Shore began this season as the No. 1 team in the state.

Katy (12-1) dropped to No. 4 in the ranking. It marks the third time since 2016 that North Shore ended Katy's season.

Just as North Shore had to contend with a storied program in Katy, Duncanville faces a similar task against No. 3 Carroll (Southlake) this week in a Class 6A Division I Region I state quarterfinal. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at McKinney ISD Stadium.

Katy and Carroll, along with three other schools, have won a UIL state-record eight state championships.

Calallen (Corpus Christi) (12-1) makes its return to the Top 25 this week and is joined by Prosper (11-2). Rockwall made the biggest climb this week, from No. 25 to No. 5.

Ranking by classification
Class 6A

1. Duncanville (13-0)
2. North Shore (Houston) (12-1)
3. Carroll (Southlake) (13-0)
4. Katy (12-1)
5. Rockwall (11-2)
6. Westfield (Houston) (12-1)
7. Guyer (Denton) (12-1)
8. Lake Travis (Austin) (12-1)
9. Westlake (Austin) (12-1)
10. Allen (11-1)
Only three unbeaten teams remain in 6A and that number is sure to go down by one when No. 1 Duncanville and No. 3 Carroll tangle in the Division I Region I title game Saturday in McKinney. The other 13-0 team, Brandeis (San Antonio) hosts No. 9 Westlake on Friday at the Alamodome. An unranked team on the roll is Dallas Jesuit (Dallas) coming off wins over Allen and Klein Collins (Spring). The 9-4 Rangers face No. 6 Westfield on Saturday in Houston.

5A-1
1. Ryan (Denton) (13-0)
2. Lone Star (Frisco) (13-0)
3. Shadow Creek (Pearland) (13-0)
4. Highland Park (Dallas) (11-2)
5. Lancaster (11-2)
No. 2 Lone Star cleared a giant hurdle, ending Highland Park's run of three consecutive state titles with a 33-27 overtime victory. After Highland Park failed to score on its overtime possession, Jaden Nixon's 18-yard scoring run clinched Lone Star's second victory over the Scots this season. Lone Star faces No. 5 Lancaster in the Region II title game Friday in Rockwall.

5A-2
1. Aledo (12-1)
2. Manvel (13-0)
3. FB Marshall (Missouri City) (12-1)
4. Calallen (Corpus Christi) (12-1)
5. Ennis (12-1)
Ennis joins the top five this week with a 12-1 record under coach Sam Harrell in his second stint at the school. His teams won three state titles before multiple sclerosis forced him to retire before the 2010 season. Citizens of Ennis helped raise the money needed for treatment in Panama that helped Harrell recover. Ennis, the only school Harrell said he would consider being head coach, went 5-5 in his return last fall. His Lions face defending state champion and top-ranked Aledo on Friday in Frisco.

4A-1
1. Argyle (13-0)
2. Carthage (13-0)
3. La Vega (Waco) (12-1)
4. Dumas (13-0)
5. Decatur (12-1)
No. 3 La Vega and No.1 Argyle collide again, the fourth meeting of the teams in the last two seasons. La Vega won last year's regional title game 31-14 on a cold, rainy evening and went on to take the state title. But getting back to a regional final was difficult for La Vega, a 45-42 winner over Melissa in the third round. Pavel Ramirez's game-winning 26-yard field goal with no time remaining capped a La Vega comeback from an early 21-0 deficit.

4A-2
1. Greenwood (Midland) (13-0)
2. Pleasant Grove (Texarkana) (12-1)
3. Navarro (Geronimo) (13-0)
4. West Orange-Stark (Orange) (10-1)
5. Iowa Park (12-1)
Navarro senior running back Euler De Leon carried 30 times for 236 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-22 third-round playoff victory over Sinton. The win sends the Panthers to the Region IV title game against 10-3 Wimberley. The two new additions to the top five this week are West Orange-Stark (Orange), a back-to-back state champion in 2015-16, and Iowa Park.

3A-1
1. Pottsboro (13-0)
2. Grandview (12-1)
3. Pilot Point (12-1)
4. Troy (12-1)
5. Hallettsville (10-2)
Pottsboro takes over the top spot after edging 2018 state finalist Malakoff 38-31. Quarterback Braden Plyler scored the winning touchdown on a nine-yard run with 36 seconds remaining. Plyler threw for 169 yards and rushed for 90 more. Pottsboro advances to face Gladewater for the Region II title. Three newcomers join the top five this week, Pilot Point, Troy and Hallettsville.

3A-2
1. Canadian (13-0)
2. East Bernard (13-0)
3. Gunter (12-1)
4. Abernathy (12-1)
5. Daingerfield (11-2)
The defense of No. 3 Gunter forced six turnovers and turned five into touchdowns in a 47-14 victory over previously ranked Rogers. The win advances Gunter to its fourth consecutive regional final, having won the previous three. Gunter faces a familiar foe in District 3 rival Holliday (10-3). Daingerfield joins the Top 5 this week following a 30-26 regional semifinal victory over Newton.

2A-1
1. Refugio (13-0)
2. San Saba (13-0)
3. Shiner (12-1)
4. San Augustin (13-0)
5. Holland (13-0)
No. 1 Refugio kept its state title dream alive with a dramatic 45-43 victory over No. 3 Shiner. After Refugio recovered an onside kick, Jordy Martinez kicked a 35-yard field goal with 27 seconds remaining to defeat Shiner in the third playoff round for the second consecutive season. Another unbeaten team, No. 5 Holland, is Refugio's next opponent in a Region IV title game on Thursday.

2A-2
1. Bremond (12-1)
2. Stratford (12-1)
3. Wellington (12-1)
4. Falls City (12-1)
5. Muenster (11-2)
Bremond rallied from a 20-7 halftime deficit and held on to the top spot with a 41-35 overtime victory over Flatonia, setting up a Region IV final against No. 4 Falls City. J.T. Anthony rushed for 247 yards and five touchdowns for Bremond including a 19-yard game-winner in overtime. Muenster is new to the top five this week and draws defending state champion Mart (10-3) in the Region III final.
