Softball Recap: Napoleon Comes Up Short

Napoleon fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Michigan Center on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 10-9. Even though they lost, the Pirates' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.2 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Kaitlyn Fall spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Napoleon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jenna Yob, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. Another was Allison Dillay, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Napoleon now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Michigan Center, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Napoleon will face off against Homer at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season. As for Michigan Center, they are taking a road trip to square off against Hanover-Horton at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cardinals will need to watch out since the Comets have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matches.
